Apart from Los Cabos, Baja Sur is blessed with two lesser-known but virtuous vacation destinations: Loreto and La Paz. For visitors wanting desert-by-the-sea natural beauty and peaceful, unspoiled surroundings these two destinations are just the places to go. They are both on the eastern side of the Baja Peninsula and face the Sea Of Cortez. These areas are known for for their nature-bound attractions such as fishing, diving, wildlife-viewing, sailing and water sports.
The more urban La Paz has a population of 175,000 people and is the capital of Baja California Sur. It not only is a bustling commercial center but has diverse lodging options and a vast amount of outdoor recreational opportunities. It's beach-front boulevard, great shopping and dining and colonial buildings are just the start of what it has to offer.
Loreto, on the other hand, has only a population of 10,000 people. It was once thought that this area was destined to be another Los Cabos or Cancun but instead has kept a very low profile. It is located in a beautiful bay and right next to a championship golf course. It is the perfect destination to enjoy nature to its fullest. This area features whale watching, cave paintings and colonial missions.
